45+ and 55+ take home championships; 35+ fight hard in finals
The Connecticut Grey return home from Can-Am with two out of three championships.
The Grey descended upon Lake Placid and Saranac Lake Thursday, July 28th, 2022 in preparation for the first day of Can-Am. On Friday the 29th, 8 matches were played by the Grey.
The 35+ side beat Muskellunge RFC at 12pm in a 44-5 victory and beat MOB at 3pm 55-0. They seeded first for the semi-finals and beat fourth seed Muskellunge a second time 59-0, securing their spot in the championship finals against the Eastside Hyenas.
The 45+ side beat Highland Rugby at 12pm 61-0 and lost to Old Breed 5-15 at 3pm. based on seeding, they secured their spot for a rematch against Old Breed in the finals.
The 55+ side defeated MOB at 10am 27-0, Old Breed 46-15 at 1pm, and Lockport Lardass 27-17 at 3pm, securing their spot in the finals for a rematch against Lockport Lardass.
The Grey celebrated Firday evening and spent Saturday recovering and enjoying the beautiful weather in the Adirondacks.
On Sunday, July 31st, the 35+ and 55+ finals were set to kick off at 11am. Lockport Lardass forfeited to the Grey for the 55+ final and the Grey were awarded the championship with an official score of 7-0.
The 35+ side had a challenging match against the Eastside Hyenas, with both teams bringing their all to the pitch. The match was a nailbiter down to the last second, with the Grey ultimately falling 18-17 to take second place in the tournament.
The 45+ side rallied for their rematch against Old Breed at 12pm and brought home the win with a 19-17 victory.
